A Study that Combines Mountainscape Photography and Generative Art

The High Desert

Collection Overview:

"The High Desert" is a series of five 1/1 black-and-white photographs of mountainous landscapes captured between 2023 and 2025 that is overlaid with a white generative pattern created using custom p5.js code.

These photographs were selected for the mountain-themed call from @Batsoupyum and @Musicalnetta in May 2026.

Each 1/1 artwork can be minted on Ethereum main network (via Manifold) for 0.05 ETH.

The High Desert is a series of five black-and-white landscape photographs captured between 2023 and 2025 across the American West, including five locations across Texas, Utah, Idaho, and Phoenix. Though separated by thousands of kilometers, these regions share a common visual language: arid and semi-arid landscapes, dramatic mountain ranges, expansive skies, and an enduring sense of scale and solitude.

Each photograph was captured while attending NFT and digital art events that I attended alongside my partner. She is featured in 2 of 5 of these photographs. Our travels were predominantly centered around Art Blocks Weekend in Marfa, Texas, which is a place that has become closely tied to my passion for blockchain-based art, creativity, and community.

The title, The High Desert, reflects both the geography and symbolism of these landscapes. High deserts are places where mountains rise from dry and often unforgiving terrain. They embody perseverance, resilience, exploration, patience, and the willingness to move forward despite uncertainty. Mountains have long represented challenge and aspiration; difficult to climb, yet capable of offering extraordinary perspective. In this collection, they serve as reminders that growth often emerges through adversity, and that some of life’s most meaningful experiences require effort, persistence, and curiosity. Each photograph includes a road or a path that is symbolic of the journey associated with these life experiences.

Each photograph represents a distinct expression of the high desert with a unique emotional attribute that aligns with the “ascending” portion of traditional market cycles.

These 5 photographs were selected in response to the call from @Batsoupyum and @Musicalnetta centered on the theme of mountains. These images were among the photographs initially considered for inclusion in my forthcoming photography collection, Follow Me. While developing that larger body of work, I recognized that these mountain images shared a unique connection and deserved to stand together as a focused series. More details about the soon-to-be-released Follow Me collection can be found here.

Each photograph of The High Desert photography series is overlaid with a white generative pattern created using custom p5.js code. This algorithmic layer introduces a dialogue between photography and code, which are two creative practices that rarely intersect in contemporary NFT photography. The overlay serves as a visual bridge between the physical landscapes I encountered and the computational systems that inspire much of my work within the digital art ecosystem. Coincidentally, these images were finalized while visiting Boise in May 2026, which was when the call for mountain-inspired digital works occurred.

The High Desert marks my first-ever NFT release and the first time I have combined my interests in photography and algorithmic art into a single body of work. The series serves as both a reflection on the landscapes that shaped these journeys and an exploration of how code can transform the way we experience and interpret photography. It also serves as a milestone for the beginning of my journey as a digital artist.
